Chefman 6-in-1 Espresso Machine with Built-In Milk Frother Review
Chefman 6-in-1 Espresso Machine with Built-In Milk Frother

The Chefman 6-in-1 Espresso Machine promises barista-quality coffee and has many useful features designed to enhance your coffee-making experience. With its powerful 15-bar pressure pump, built-in milk frother, and intuitive touchscreen, this espresso machine aims to deliver rich, bold flavors and creamy textures, making it a versatile addition to any kitchen.

Key Features

1. Barista-Quality Performance

The Chefman Espresso Machine boasts a 15-bar pressure pump, which is crucial for extracting the full flavor and aroma from your coffee grounds. This high-pressure system ensures that each shot of espresso is rich and full-bodied, comparable to what you would expect from a professional coffee shop.

2. One-Touch Operation

One of the standout features is its intuitive touchscreen. This interface simplifies the coffee-making process, allowing users to brew single or double shots of espresso with just a tap. The automatic operation is particularly beneficial for those who are new to making espresso or who want a quick and hassle-free experience.

3. Integrated Milk Frother

The built-in milk frother is another highlight. It enables users to create creamy, frothy milk for lattes and cappuccinos effortlessly. The removable milk reservoir is a practical addition, allowing you to store leftover milk in the fridge, keeping it fresh for your next use.

4. Self-Cleaning Function

Maintenance is often a concern with espresso machines, but the Chefman model addresses this with its self-cleaning function. This feature helps keep the machine in optimal condition, reducing the time and effort required for regular cleaning.

5. Compact and Space-Saving Design

Measuring 8.3″D x 11″W x 12.6″H, the Chefman Espresso Machine is designed to fit comfortably on most countertops without taking up too much space. Despite its compact size, it includes an XL 1.8-liter water reservoir, which is sufficient for making multiple cups of coffee without frequent refills.

User Experience

Ease of Use

Customers appreciate the straightforward setup and operation of this machine. The clear instructions and user-friendly touchscreen make it accessible even for beginners. The inclusion of a measuring spoon tamper and two filter sizes allows users to customize the strength of their coffee easily.

Performance and Quality

Most users report that the machine delivers on its promise of producing cafe-quality coffee. The 15-bar pump consistently extracts strong and flavorful espresso shots, and the milk frother performs well, creating smooth and velvety foam.

Durability and Maintenance

The Chefman Espresso Machine is built with stainless steel, adding to its durability and sleek appearance. The self-cleaning function and removable, dishwasher-safe parts simplify maintenance, making it easier to keep the machine in good working order over time.

Operating Instructions

Before First Use

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Remove all packaging materials. Ensure all parts and accessories are included. Remove any non-permanent stickers.
  2. Clean Components: Hand wash the water reservoir, milk reservoir, portafilter, portafilter baskets, measuring scoop, drip tray, and removable coaster with mild detergent and water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Only the metal baskets and coaster are fully dishwasher safe. Note: The four parts of the milk reservoir lid can be disassembled and reassembled.
  3. Prime the Unit: Follow the steps below to clean and remove any packaging debris before the first use.

Priming the Unit (Important)

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Fill the water reservoir to between the “Min” and “Max” markings.
  2. Fill Milk Reservoir with Water: Remove the milk reservoir by tilting it up and then pulling it out. Fill it with water (not milk) to the “Min” and “Max” markings and return it to the unit by tilting it down and pushing it firmly into place.
  3. Place Heatproof Cup: Place a large heatproof cup or mug on the metal coaster set over the drip tray. (The coaster is reversible to adjust the height.)
  4. Set Froth Strength: Set the froth strength to Extra and position the froth dispensing tube inside the cup using the silver froth tube lever.
  5. Insert Empty Portafilter Basket: Place an empty portafilter basket in the portafilter.
  6. Attach Portafilter: Fit the portafilter onto the brew head unit and ensure it’s locked in place. (Refer to page 11 for more information on placing the portafilter.)
  7. Turn On: Plug in the unit and switch it on. The power switch is located low down on the side.
  8. Priming cycle: Push the DOUBLE CAPPUCCINO button. The button flashes until the machine heats up. Don’t press it again, or it will stop the process.
  9. Complete Priming Cycle: Allow the cup to fill with water from the brew head and froth dispensing tube. When the cycle ends, the unit will beep three times. Dispose of the water from the cup and milk reservoir. The machine is now ready to use.

Choosing the Right Size Cup

The 15-bar pressure of the Espresso Machine+ supports a variety of coffee drinks, from a small espresso to a large latte. Refer to the graph on page 10 for cup size recommendations. The actual amount may vary based on coffee grind and froth amount. The metal coaster over the drip tray can be flipped to adjust the cup height under the brew head.

Filling the Milk Reservoir

For cappuccinos or lattes, fill the milk reservoir:

  1. Remove Milk Reservoir: Tilt it up and pull it out.
  2. Fill with Cold Milk: Fill to the “Min” and “Max” markings.
  3. Replace Milk Reservoir: Tilt it down and slide it firmly back into place.

Note: You can use any type of milk—whole, skim, soy, oat—for froth.

Choosing and Inserting the Portafilter Basket

  1. Insert Basket: Drop the basket into the portafilter.
  2. Single or Double Shots: Use the smaller basket for a single shot and the larger basket for a double shot or a larger drink.

Drink Volume Guide

  • Espresso Single: 1.75 oz
  • Espresso Double: 3.25 oz
  • Cappuccino Single: 3.5 oz
  • Cappuccino Double: 6.25 oz
  • Latte Single: 5.75 oz
  • Latte Double: 10 oz

Choosing the Right Coffee and Grind

  • Freshness: Use freshly ground espresso beans as pre-ground beans lose flavor quickly.
  • Grind Size: The grind should be fine, like table salt. If too fine (powdery), the water will not flow properly. If too coarse, the water will flow too fast, resulting in weak flavor. Finding the perfect grind may take practice.

Filling the Water Reservoir

  1. Filling Options: Use a pitcher to fill the reservoir while it is on the unit or remove it to fill at the sink.
  2. Fill with Cold Water: Open the lid and fill with cold water to the “Min” and “Max” markings. Never use warm or hot water.
  3. Replace Reservoir: Close the lid and ensure the reservoir fits tightly back in the unit, if removed.

Pros and Cons
